There are 168 hours in a week. If approximately 25 hours are spent learning in class and 63 hours sleeping, that leaves about 80 hours for everything else—including time to have fun and do a bit of tutoring.
We love to see children of any age enjoying themselves. To help make room for that, here are some practical tips we share with our students and tutors. There’s a saying we like: “If you want to eat dessert, you have to clear the table.”
Use your planner to get—and stay—organized. Include important assignments, tests, quizzes, reminders, sports, tutoring, and social engagements.
Give yourself time to prepare for tests. Write “prepare for math test” on the days leading up to it, noting which topics to review, when to study with a friend, or which test-taking strategies to practise.
Consult your planner every morning and evening. Then enjoy the satisfaction of checking off your completed tasks!
Keep a binder with sections for each class, or a separate notebook or small binder for each subject. When your notes are organized, your head and heart can feel a little clearer, too.
Go through your backpack each day and clear out anything you no longer need. Start Monday with a clean backpack, fresh water, healthy snacks, and an up-to-date planner.
Choose a calm, clean, organized place to study, with as few distractions as possible.
Get enough rest, make time for healthy meals and snacks, and drink water regularly throughout the day.
Most of all, make time to enjoy your family and friends! Getting organized helps leave room for the things you enjoy.
